Dearest Readers~
I’m still struggling to believe that winter break flew by so fast and that a new year is already upon us, despite our family’s Christmas vacation having some unexpected hiccups, such as my mother’s pager lingering cold that didn’t subside until shortly before Christmas, we still managed to have a Christmas celebration with my brother- and sister-in-law. Still, we made the best of it by executing a Christmas on a smaller scale than we’re used to. This year’s menu consisted of honey-baked ham instead of turkey, scalloped potatoes, green beans casserole, Jell-O, and, of course, chocolate pie.

At any rate, I’ve heard many people say they can’t wait for a new year. Why? Maybe it’s because they’ve had so many difficult things happen this year that they can’t wait for a fresh start. Maybe they want to put last behind them because they feel they’ve made so many mistakes. 2025 represents 365 days of new experiences and opportunities that await me in the new year. Whatever the reason, the new year means a clean slate for most of us- a brand-new opportunity to set goals and finally accomplish them.

That got me thinking.

As exciting as the new year always is, we really don’t need it to represent a clean slate. As Christians, we always have one in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the Cross! Jesus knew what was to come and just prior to his arrest, he prayed that he be glorified through his obedience in going to the cross. What exactly did his mission include? Not only did he perform physical miracles, but he came to seek and save the lost and provide complete atonement of their sins.  Romans 3: 23- 26 says “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all our justified freely by grace through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ.God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood – to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished – he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.” (NIV)

He did that for me…

He did that for you.. For anyone who chooses to take a leap of faith and trust in him as your Lord and Savior.

So you see, you don’t have to wait another year for a clean slate. You can start today. He will meet you right where you are. As Lamentations 3:22- 23 reminds us, “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (ESV)

Full disclosure: When I first chose Newsboys song, “You Are My King (Amazing Love)” I had no idea how everything would fit together, only that I liked the song during my college years and thought it would remind readers that everything they do gives glory to God (Colossians 3: 23- 24.) I didn’t know it would turn into this it would turn into this. Though I’m not surprised. Having said that, I have included the references I used and the got questions.org reference I paraphrased for those interested in finding out more.
