Music Monday: “Yes I Will” by Vertical Worship

It’s good to return home from vacation and get back into my routine. Although it was great having time away with my family and friends, and not having to worry about writing and scheduling blog posts. Living in Virginia doesn’t always make it easy to catch up with everyone. That’s why we try to have a reunion every year so everybody can come together and catch up. This year, we could make it as a family since I didn’t have a writer’s conference scheduled. (It’s in August.)
During the reunion, I found a kindred spirit in my second cousin Susan. She likes to say I’m an inspiration to her because of the way I live with my disability. As flattering as that is to hear, I’m not anything special though. I’m just living the life God gave me to the fullest, using every opportunity I have to share my faith and point others to Jesus. In reality, that’s how every Christian should live- providing a reason for the hope that we have in Christ. 1 Peter 3:15 reminds us, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” (NIV)
Susan herself has MS and many other medical issues. Like myself, she has learned to have faith not despite her difficulties but because of them. Paul writes in Philippians 4:12 – 13 about the secret. He writes, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
Vertical Worship’s “Yes I Will” reminds Christians that faith is not a muscle to be flexed and used when times are good. Rather, we must invite God into all areas of life- during good times and bad- for our faith to mature.I like how Habakkuk 3:16- 18 puts it, “I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound; decay crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading. Though the fig trees do not bud and there are no grades on the vines, and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in The Lord, I will be joyful in my Savior.”
