Music Monday: “To Not Worship You” by Mercy Me
by: Debbie waltz
In my “Portrait of the Faithful” series, we’ve spent the past few weeks exploring how Jesus demonstrated his authority throughout his earthly ministry. His mighty acts showcased His power, enabling Him to both cure physical ailments and grant forgiveness of sins, thereby spiritually restoring individuals to the Father.
Today, we are part of that same mission. Yet, at times, we struggle with how to integrate God into every part of our lives. We may find it easier to invite Him into certain areas while holding others back, forgetting that Jesus calls us to wholehearted faith and complete surrender. As followers of Christ, we have been entrusted with the message of reconciliation. As Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 5:20, “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us.”
Being Christ’s ambassadors should transform every area of our lives, including how we respond to authority, how we seek truth, and how we represent Him to others. This does not mean we blindly obey authority; rather, we are called to honor authority while carefully examining what we hear through the truth of God’s Word. The believers in Berea give us a beautiful example of this balance. Acts 17:11 tells us that they “received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”
The question is not only whether we believe in His power, but whether our lives reveal our worship of Him. Every act of kindness, every word of encouragement, every moment of forgiveness, and every step of obedience can point others toward the One who has changed us.
MercyMe’s song “To Not Worship You” captures the awe that comes from recognizing who Jesus is. When we truly see His goodness, His sacrifice, and His faithfulness, worship becomes more than a song—it becomes the posture of our hearts and the way we live. It also reminds us that every part of this earth is evidence of a Creator and the One who created us.
