“Fun” Friday: The Power of humor and song take center stage on AGT- instead of disability

By Debbie Waltz

As summer gets into full swing, people gather around the television set, looking for new entertainment to enjoy and entertain them. So far, America’s got talent has not failed to disappoint offering a variety of acts from around the globe. I will highlight just a couple of them here.

  1. The first is reminiscent of Britain’s got talent winner, “The Lost Voice Guy,” and Blue from last year’s season. Like these comedians, Ahren Beliesle is unafraid to laugh at himself and his disability. Despite having CP (cerebral palsy,) he hasn’t allowed this to stop him from accomplishing his dreams.  Using a text-to-speech app only seems to enhance his comedic timing with suspenseful pauses and hand and body movements.

2. My second favorite audition is reminiscent of America’s Got Talent autistic singer Kodi Lee- although Putri Ariani lives in Indonesia. Like Kodi, she received Simon’s Golden buzzer. Still a high school student, she dreams of going Juilliard.

I can’t wait to see what the future stages of the competition, bring for these too!
