Faithful Friday: Karen Kingsbury’s “Redemption” series premiered on March 28

As many of you know, I am a fan of Karen Kingsbury. Known for writing “Life-Changing Fiction,” she doesn’t shy away from the hard issues of this life. Instead, she faces them head-on, using her writing as a weapon of “sorts.” Kingsbury creates such relatable characters that her fans can’t help but become invested in the storyline and see it through to the very end. Through her unique way with words, she can take her readers into each character’s mind,- displaying their transformation through 3 different aspects. These are physical, emotional, and spiritual.
She isn’t stopping there though. With the help of her son, Tyler Russell, she recently brought to the big screen one of her best-selling novels entitled “Someone Like You.” My movie review of her theatrical premiere can be found here: My review of “Someone Like You.” By creating her own production company, Kingsbury hopes to create “beautiful redemptive stories that are unforgettable.” This descriptive tagline has certainly lived up to its potential so far, giving great hope to audiences who are looking for more than just a source of entertainment.
But even before that, Kingsbury was working to find ways of shining God’s Light into the darkness over. You see, it was over years ago when Roma Downey and Mark Burnett first acquired the rights to the Baxter series through the production of Light Works media; It wasn’t until 2018 that the Baxter’s finally began filming and found a home on Prime Video. With over 25 million fans, this is the series that made Kingsbury so well-known. Through the 10-episode saga, we learn the realities of what it takes to navigate life’s most difficult challenges with faith and family by our side.
This doesn’t mean it will be easy though. Each episode opens with a theme verse; that theme is central to that episode’s storyline and plot. In general, though, the first season focuses on the tragedy of infidelity in today’s society and its effect on the family as a whole. Is it possible to reunite after such a betrayal and come back even stronger?
The series has 3 seasons and it’s available now on Amazon Prime.
