Music Monday: “Fires” by Jordan St. Cyr

by: Debbie waltz

Over the past weekend, I shared with my church congregation an account of my journey with a disability, a narrative woven into the fabric of my recently published book, “The Summer of Mended Hearts.” I hope my brief testimony offered the congregation a small insight into my life and how I use my writing skills to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, despite my disability. I hope this will help people realize how God can use individuals in diverse ways to expand His kingdom when they permit Him.

This doesn’t mean life will be easy; my life is proof of that. As I have often pointed out in past blogs, God employs challenging life experiences to transform us into being more like Jesus. This can either bring us closer to God or push us further away. Remaining grounded in God’s Word  consistently is crucial. Beyond deepening our knowledge and comprehension of God, this helps us cultivate discernment and trust in God’s peace to guide us through any adversity. As Romans 12:2 reminds us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (NIV)

It is crucial to understand that we are not facing this situation by ourselves. As Christians, our salvation means we are reconciled to God and stand in a right relationship with Him. We may still encounter setbacks and sin again at certain moments. That’s exactly why it’s so vital for us to engrave His Word onto our hearts regularly. It aids in making sound decisions by distinguishing right from wrong, and it also provides peace during uncertain periods. As Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Jordan St. Cyr’s song “Fires” reminds Christians that they are not alone on their faith journey. It reminds them that Jesus is walking with them. It calls to look back and reflect on his faithfulness, trusting he has our best interest in mind
