Music Monday: “On My Knees” by Jaci Velasquez

by Debbie Waltz

This weekend, I read something on a friend’s Facebook story that stuck with me. It said something like this.”Be sure to talk to God tonight. He misses you.“ This brief but meaningful expression underscores the significance of the relationship that every believer should have with God. Unfortunately, we occasionally stumble, opting to depend on ourselves rather than trusting God to provide. Throughout the Bible, one of the most common themes is the continuous internal struggle Christians endure, fighting against their own sinful characteristics. In fact, the apostle Paul himself documented some of his personal experiences in the book of 2nd Corinthians.

Instead of highlighting the success of his testimony, he shared his personal hardships to showcase God’s power in his life. Acknowledging his vulnerability, he found solace only in the grace of Jesus. Paul writes in II Corinthians 4:7-9: “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” Although Paul acknowledges the difficult circumstances, he emphasizes God’s ultimate triumph. This passage illustrates how God’s power can be most evident in our weakness.

2 Corinthians 12:9- 11 says: But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

The song “On My Knees” by Jaci Velasquez serves as a reminder of the incredible privilege that we have to approach God in prayer, as His beloved children. Through his ultimate sacrifice upon the cross, he fulfilled the roles of both the high priest and the sacrificial offering for atonement, thereby rendering animal sacrifices obsolete and symbolically destroying the “veil.” (Hebrews 4:14-16). Because we are His children, we can approach His throne with confidence.
