Music Monday: “I’ve Just Seen Too Much” by Big Daddy Weave
For those who regularly read my blog, you’ll know that I usually refer to Christians as messengers. Why is this? Since we are saved from sin, we bring God’s message of hope to a world that is broken.
In our last blog, we discovered how God redeems us in 3 different ways
- He awakens our souls to recognize our sinful nature
- He awakens our dead works and gives us a new purpose
- he awakens our worship to a real relationship with Our Heavenly Father
In this blog, I would like to explore what our response should be in return. Like any relationship, it takes work. We should want to know God out of gratefulness in our hearts for taking our sin and giving us his righteousness. This requires remembering God’s faithfulness to us in the past and holding onto God’s promises when times get tough.
Big Daddy Weave’s newest song, “I’ve Just Seen Too Much” deals with the harsh reality of living in this sinful and broken world while maintaining our hope in God. Though we are redeemed, we still wrestle with our own nature and questions. Yet, God doesn’t leave us there, he is faithful.
Recall the time in Jesus’ ministry when many disciples stopped following Jesus? Jesus appeared discouraged, and Peter responded in a way that encouraged Him.
“ After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” John 6:66–68 (ESV)
Peter was effectively saying, just like this song, “I’ve just seen too much!”
Responding to this song on Youtube, Brittany shared, “Hallelujah Lord. You are my light and salvation. I can be okay walking through my trials and tribulations, and possibly plagues of my own making, because of your undeniable presence in my life. I know that You are with me, using the fire to refine me into the daughter of Christ You have called me to be, and I am confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in me will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. – Philippians 1:6”
This is worship – Peter and Brittany acknowledged the reality in their lives of the presence of God to protect and comfort when times get tough. And they encouraged Jesus that they will not walk away.
