Music Monday: “What Are We Waiting For?” by for KING & COUNTRY

Welcome Back, Readers~

Nothing of the past two weeks panned out like expected. Though we could take a brief detour to the beach with the dog, our vacation was cut short when our ramp motor burned up and quit working. Of course, it happened when we were out at McDonald’s getting dinner. My dad tried his best to diagnose and fix the problem himself, but unfortunately, he couldn’t. That left us with an even bigger problem–how would they get me out of the van and back into the hotel for bed? Not having a manual wheelchair, these are a few options we toyed with:

  1. Sleeping in the van for the night.
  2. Driving straight home and canceling our reservations.
  3. Carrying me straight to the room.
  4. Bring the swivel chair down from our room and use that to transport me. (With some kind of homemade seatbelt. Safety first:))
  5. See if there’s anywhere we can buy a portable wheelchair.

These options didn’t particularly thrill me because I needed a particular seating arrangement to be comfortable. But what could we do?? Unless we wanted to cut our trip short and head home. In the end, we decided it would be best for us to get a good night’s sleep and then head home. But how did we end up getting me back inside? It turns out some drugstores have portable wheelchairs on and to purchase. What we didn’t prepare for was having to put it together in the hotel parking lot. Long story short, we got the portable wheelchair together and slept comfortably in our beds before heading home the next day.

At home, we encountered the same problem. This time, though, we enlisted my brother’s help in getting my wheelchair out of the vehicle. Wouldn’t you know it, he lifted my 300-pound wheelchair out without hurting himself? Superhero brother to the rescue…Even as I write this, I still don’t know how he did it! This goes without saying, but we will probably never travel without my manual wheelchair again. The risk is not worth it.

You’ve often heard me say that we are the Lord’s Ambassadors to a very broken world. With wars, earthquakes, and other natural disasters, The Lord is moving. Now more than ever, the world is searching for hope wherever they can find it. There’s no time to waste. 1 Peter 3:15 says, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…” (NIV)

Matthew 5:14- 15 reminds us that our testimony plays a vital role in how others see God. It says, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” Likewise, we can be the only Christian representative in our friend’s life. They recognize there’s something different in us, opening up opportunities for authentic conversations about faith in all aspects of daily life.
