Music Monday: “Through it all” by Hillsong Worship
by Debbie Waltz
Over the last several months, I’ve given you my perspective on our church’s study of the book of Hebrews. Even though it was mainly penned for new Jewish Christians who were finding it difficult to remain steadfast while facing religious persecution, this book offers a great deal of practical guidance that we can apply in our present times. For those that may have just happened upon my blog, I will give you a brief overview. In past chapters, the author looked at how Jesus is better than all in terms of these categories:
- Jesus is better than all the biblical figures in the Bible (Moses, Angels etc.)
- Jesus is focused on relationship- both spiritual and physical with the Lord
-
- He awakens our souls, dead works, and gives us new purpose
- He provides a better way through his death on the cross-eliminating the need for animal sacrifices.
- He is our high priest (Hebrews 4: 13)
Similar to other relationships, we also have a role to play.
- We must have faith- more than just believing God exists. (Hebrews 11:6)
- We should dedicate time to studying God’s Word, to understand Him and learn about His nature.
- We must recognize that life is not just about getting to the finish line, but how we have changed along the way
- Have we put off sinful desires in effort to become more like Christ?
- Do we portray Christ to those around us? (Through our actions and deeds)
- Even more important, have we shared The Gospel with those around us when given the chance?
I understand these are tough questions, but they’re crucial for fully experiencing the transformation God desires for us. That being said, we must give ourselves grace. We humans still find ourselves drawn to worldly things, and occasionally, we stumble. We are flawed and will remain so until Jesus’s return.
But God is always faithful
Though the world may grow more uncertain by the day, we rely on God’s faithfulness daily. Our focus should be on him and not the things of this world. Hillsong Worship’s “Through It All” reminds us we are not alone on this race called life; God is with us. Even though we must put in effort and dedication, God is the one who makes our faith perfect, and we won’t achieve complete perfection until He comes back. ( Hebrews 12:2)
