Music Monday: “Honest,” by Leanna Crawford

Music Monday “Honest,” by Leanna Crawford

As I prepare for the writing conference in March, I am filled with nervous anticipation and uncertainty about what the experience will hold. While I have attended numerous conferences, this particular conference is new to me, and it has been quite some time since I last attended an in-person writing conference. Additionally, it’s been a while since I’ve shopped my proposal around to publishers with a completed manuscript. I’m anxious to see what the different perspectives will say and how my manuscript will be received. I’ve had interest before, but nothing came of it.

I am also actively involved in the Revelation Bible study held at our church. I developed a very elementary understanding of the tribulation from a Christian viewpoint during my childhood. Throughout the last few weeks, I’ve realized the end times encompass so much more than individual judgment and final destination; it’s a complex tapestry of interwoven events and consequences. Although challenging, the four main perspectives have provided invaluable insight into the nuances separating various Christian denominations, such as dispensationalist and futurist viewpoints. It offers deeper insight into people’s backgrounds and perspectives, allowing me to navigate disagreements better and find common ground. As long as people believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior, that’s what’s most important.

In the midst of it all, I’m at a loss. I know this should increase our sense of urgency and vigor in preaching the Gospel to the lost. After all, we are God’s messengers chosen to bring light into a dark world. Luke 10:19 tells us, “For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.” (NIV).

Let’s be honest, though. Sometimes, it’s hard to see beyond our own circumstances. That’s why holding on to the promise that we are not alone and God is walking with us is essential. Deuteronomy 31:8 reminds us, “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. (NIV).

As Christians, we’ve gotten this preconceived notion that we must be perfect when coming to the Lord when, in reality it’s the complete opposite. It’s God who does the transforming work in people’s lives and nothing else. The we may be instrumental in God’s plan, we are just that instruments

Leanna Crawford’s song “Honest” is so achingly real as she battles to find the truth somewhere between her questions and doubts. She doesn’t deny them but rests on the reality that God has shown up in her life over and over again. Let the same be said of us.
