Music Monday: “Heaven On My Mind” by TobyMac (featuring Forest Frank)
By: Debbie Waltz
I understand it has been quite some time since I published a “Music Monday” blog post segment. Those of you who have been keeping up with my work might remember that I’ve been in the process of finishing the final edits of my manuscript. Having completed that part of the task, I am satisfied and have advanced to the next stage. As part of this process, I will need to complete additional paperwork, including providing detailed information on the new information sheet, such as my book’s blurb and any other marketing aspects.
I also started attending an eight-week Bible study entitled “The Way of Wisdom”. We used Proverbs as a starting point to delve into the various traits and qualities that are essential in cultivating wisdom. In the initial two weeks of the study, our primary focus was to establish a clear definition of wisdom while also differentiating between the two contrasting courses of action: the path characterized by foolishness and the path leading to wisdom. The fear of the Lord is a famous biblical proverb highlighted early in this book of the Bible (9:10). Rather than merely an emotion, true wisdom encompasses the respect and reverence one has for the Lord and the extent of His Power. In the weeks that followed, our focus was directed towards cultivating a wisdom rooted in godliness, and the impact of this wisdom would be evident in the way we communicated, the things we did, and the character of our relationships.
As Christians, we know the change isn’t instantaneous or something that happens overnight. However, we are well aware that our intentional, lifelong partnership with Jesus is what truly instigates transformation. Despite our best efforts, we are inherently sinful. Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? ” We need Jesus to transform our minds by helping us become more Christlike. The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 12:2: ” Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
The sanctification process is underway, but it is only upon the second coming of Jesus that it will reach its ultimate conclusion.
It is an unfortunate reality that people often find it easy to be consumed by the present and, in doing so, overlook the spiritual promise of heaven. Our book club is starting Randy Alcorn’s comprehensive book on heaven. After reading the smaller booklet, I am now very excited and eager to learn more about the biblical evidence that supports the existence of heaven and to allow my imagination to be completely transformed and renewed.
