Welcome Back, Readers~

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind for me. For those following my journey on this blog, you may recall how my family and I have stepped out in faith by hiring a writing coach to help me complete my novel. After our second meeting, Darcie concluded she needed to see what I had so far to see if there was a better place to start my novel. In the meantime, she suggested I read Save the Cat Writes A Novel: The Last Book On Writing You Will Ever Need by Jessica Brody. I’m still in the book, but I’m learning a lot. I thought I knew the techniques for writing a book. But boy was I wrong… I still have a long way to go.

It means the world that I have someone else (besides my family) who sees my potential; Darcie sees my talent and will work with me to bring it into the market. Hiring someone was always going to be part of the plan,  but life always got in the way.

Not anymore.

Circumstances have kept me from attending my regular morning services, but that hasn’t stopped me from attending. Meta Church’s (NYC) newest series entitled “Legendary Faith.” reminded me about stepping out in obedience when you have heard God’s calling on your life. This doesn’t make it easy or mean you have all the answers. Because we don’t. As Christians, we trust in The One who knows our future and sees how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together. We may not see the end product for ourselves, but still believe our life has a purpose for the Kingdom.

Proverbs 3:5 instructs us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.” (NIV)  All that is required is that we remain available to hear God’s voice. We are nothing more than the vessel he uses to move on behalf of others. 2 Timothy 2:21 says, “Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be made instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work,” (NIV)

Now my problem is I have been working on the project so long that I need “fresh eyes” (God’s perspective) to know where to go from here. When I first started the project, I felt God speaking to me by the words I wrote on the page. I pray that returns so that I may complete the task set before me as a teenager writing in my grandmother’s living room- pecking out one word at a time with my figure on my small computer with word prediction on it. A lot has happened since but I pray my commission remains the same.

(I use the term “returns” loosely in the last paragraph because I know nothing is lost.  anything, I am the one who’s changed over the years. Even so, God has made himself known in so many ways over the years.)

  1. Hey, Debbie, I am so glad to see you are connected with Ricky and Krista Ortiz’ church!!! They have so much passion and strong faith that it HAS to be an inspiring experience! I used to (via Faithbox) write Ricky with questions I couldn’t ask publicly and he was so kind to help me find the answers I needed. Now that he has this amazing church, I really believe he has found his calling!
I’m so fascinated by hearing of the path you’re following to help you write your book! I have made a stab or two writing my book but never get very far. I really don’t feel it is my calling. But I continue to look for the best way to “Go Tell” to those who need to know the Lord. I’m a bit ‘backwards’ when it comes to conversations about Jesus, unless it’s with a fellow believer, and that’s not who needs to hear them. I think I fear that they will be aggressive or ask questions I don’t know the answer to because I’ve only been saved for 6 years and spent nearly 12 years in my home church learning about Jesus and God. And I’m 79. So many of my church family were born into the faith and learned from the beginning.
But you inspire me and I am still “Go Tell-ing” in whatever way I can. God bless you and your wonderful work!

    • I can’t believe I didn’t find this comment until now. Thanks, Susan for sticking with me this long. Yes, I do have a home church, but whenever I can’t make it. I watch Meta church on YouTube. They do have such passion about their faith, it’s contagious. As much as I enjoy my home church, their church speaks to where I am right now and my faith journey. Yes, I do plan to keep you guys updated on my book journey; but life has kept me and my writing coach from getting together lately. Again, thanks for sticking around
